Where Should We Find Our Identity?

Robert Negron Blog 0 0

The Word of God tells us that we are to find our identity in Jesus Christ and no where else.   This is a bold statement and one that many have a hard time understanding.  So, what does this really mean?

As we go through life it’s easy to get tied up in our titles, titles as mom or dad, pastor, doctor, clerk, or our status, or the sports team or political party we root for.   The problem is that when we get caught up in any of these, when things change or don’t go the way we want them too, we feel lost.  Insecurity, doubt and fear begin to creep in.  Statements like, “what will I do now?’, “what will others think of me?, “my team or political party is a loser” etc.   We must learn to find our identity in something greater, something that lasts.  As a believer in Jesus Christ we find our eternal identity.   We are one with other believers and one in Him.  There’s nothing wrong with having a title or taking seriously our profession, our loyalty to a team or party, but at the same time they are all fleeting.  The reality is that we will all one day be replaced, our positions, titles, money and diplomas will no longer serve us as we stand before the Lord to give an account of the choices we’ve made.  For those who have accepted Christ, we will experience eternal life with Him, for He paid the ultimate price for our sin and our salvation is secured.  Not because of what we’ve done or how good we’ve been, but because of what He has done for us!  The gospel’s message is clear, He died for us so that we may be with Him and live for Him.  From dust we came and to dust our bodies return, but our souls last for eternity.  Earth is not our eternal home and by placing our trust in Jesus Christ, the One who paid the price for our sin, we find our true identity, purpose and calling to serve others in the manner He did.  Our destiny in Him is secured that we may focus on serving our spouses, children, country, pastor, co-workers, and those down-trodden like the homeless, poor and elderly.  Along the road, we may suffer setback, loose a job title, money, possessions, but we are still His.  He will never leave nor forsake us nor can we ever get plucked from His loving hand.  Our lives are now His and we should seek what He has for us through prayer, in whatever season we’re in.  We should no longer pursue what we want but seek to obey HIM.   Jesus gave us an example by seeking the Father’s will and going to the cross even though He knew it would separate Him from His Father, He’d be humiliated and crucified like a lamb led to the slaughter.   But the good news is that three days later He rose again demonstrating His power over even death.  In the same manner, as we find our identity in Christ and create a new testimony for our lives, those we come in contact with will see whose we are so that they too may want to come to know and serve our Savior!  Jesus died and 40 days later rose up unto heaven that the Holy Spirit may be sent to dwell within the believer, guiding, protecting, correcting and convicting us of sin and helping us live lives of of holiness and love.  Our identity should be found solely in Him so take time to listen for Him daily and by doing this we shall give God ALL the glory!  HAVE A BLESSED AND GOD FILLED DAY!!
