In our sometimes fast paced lives, with various forms of technology all around us to keep us busy, it’s easy to forget the simple blessings God has bestowed upon us and how easy it is to bless others. When I step back and contemplate my life, I find that I have been blessed in an abundant number of ways.
Blessings come in all forms, from my wife’s love and our commitment to one another, to spending time with my immediate family, church family and others whom God has placed in my path. It’s easy to sometimes get critical and not feel content, but in reality, I am a blessed man. These days, I get up, have my coffee and begin to look out the back window of our condominium to see what kind of sunrise God is preparing. With the lake behind us, the sun often reflects off it in amazing ways. Each sunrise is never the same and always in some way uniquely beautiful.
After my grandson Jeremy’s passing back in 2015, I wrote a book entitled, “Experiencing God’s Love Through His Creation” where I meant to communicate how Jesus speaks to us each day through the beauty of His creation. I had come to realize that God had not abandoned nor forsook me. Instead, I realized that I can still trust Him as He’s in control and still loves me. This perspective has both helped and encouraged me to keep moving forward despite our family’s loss. He is faithful!
Recently, my daughter Kim celebrated her 34th birthday and I decided to write her a letter about how she has blessed my life. Despite despite going through some bumpy roads in our early years our love has both endured and gotten stronger. I know it will continue to endure no matter what comes our way as we continue to look to God for strength. When writing, I remembered when she was younger and getting her a “Big Bird” stuffed animal. What a goofy character but it brought us moments of joy, laughter and a memory that I’ll never forget.
Simple acts of love and kindness will create moments that last forever. I believe these are our greatest gifts and one’s we can bestow upon one another. Whether it be a simple smile, handshake, pat on the shoulder or kind word to others they can go a long way toward breaking down walls that separate us and are all forms of blessings.
So, as we go about our day, may we take time for the simple things blessing one another with small, simple acts of kindness. Using the words of Jesus, let’s “let our light so shine before men” and may He Bless you today in new and simply profound ways!!
