In the book of Matthew, Chapter 15 verse 18, scripture tells us “but those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.” As I reflect on this passage I find that my words and attitude are often a reflection of what is going on in my heart. I should allow no room in my heart for bitterness, unforgiveness, jealousy or hatred as it will come out in my thoughts and words. When we get up in the morning we don’t usually think, ‘I’m going to hurt someone with my words today” but we do and then later regret it. To counter this I believe a simple prayer each morning will help. Dear Lord, help me be tenderhearted, purify my heart toward others that the only words which come from my mouth give life, love, compassion, empathy to those I come in contact with. Make me an instrument of your goodness, peace, kindness and love! May I live a life of integrity and character as I seek You in every circumstance and interaction with others. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen!
